ICYMI: Joe Patry: Governor Ayotte’s Silence Comes with a Price

In Case You Missed It, Nashua resident Joe Patry wrote an op-ed slamming Kelly Ayotte for her silence on Donald Trump’s illegal war in Iran. The average New Hampshire household could be looking at nearly $2,300 to heat their home this winter. That’s on top of the already “insurmountable burdens” Granite Staters are facing, including higher electricity prices, which have risen 15% under Ayotte’s failed leadership.

“It’s particularly striking” that Kelly Ayotte “hasn’t said a word about this war,” given that as a U.S. Senator, Kelly Ayotte “had plenty to say about Iran.” She “repeatedly opposed diplomatic efforts with Iran – and ironically criticized President Obama for not consulting Congress in reaching an agreement with Iran.” Now that it’s Trump’s war, “she’s gone mute,” which seems all too convenient “given her praise for Trump being the ‘right choice’ to lead the country.”

Nashua InkLink: The Soapbox: Governor Ayotte’s Silence Comes with a Price

  • Families across New Hampshire this winter will face an impossible choice – heat their home or pay for groceries, medicine, or other necessities. President Trump, with Governor Ayotte’s silence, have made the cost of living even higher.

  • President Trump’s illegal war in Iran has driven up prices for everything from gas to groceries, and now home heating oil. As WMUR recently reported, the average household could be looking at nearly $2,300 to heat their home this winter. That’s roughly a 31% increase from last winter. Our neighbors in Maine and Vermont are facing a 77% increase.

  • Granite Staters didn’t choose this war, but we are all being forced to pay for its consequences. Families are already facing insurmountable burdens with higher electricity costs. In just two years, electricity costs have risen 15% under Governor Ayotte’s failed leadership, and the higher price of home heating oil is just another hit on hardworking families. Meanwhile, the Governor has failed to even consider increasing the supply of renewable energy. So it’s particularly striking that our own Governor hasn’t said a word about this war and the devastating impact it’s had on New Hampshire families.

  • When Governor Ayotte was a U.S. senator, she had plenty to say about Iran. She repeatedly opposed diplomatic efforts with Iran – and ironically criticized President Obama for not consulting Congress in reaching an agreement with Iran. But now that Trump’s war is driving up energy costs for New Hampshire families, she’s gone mute. It’s convenient given her praise for Trump being the “right choice” to lead this country.

  • When you trudge out to your mailbox on the first -10 degree morning and see your heating bill come in, remember to think about Kelly Ayotte and how she had plenty to say about Iran when it was politically convenient, but nothing to say when Granite Staters are the ones paying the price.
