NH Senate Race Update: Senator Who Wanted to Sunset Social Security Will Stump for GOP Senate Nominee

Florida Senator Rick Scott, who authored a plan that would have “sunset Social Security and Medicare” within just five years, is visiting New Hampshire next month to stump for Republican candidates, including potential U.S. Senate nominee John Sununu, who was a “leading figure in the effort” to privatize Social Security while in office. 

Today’s announcement, made on the 91st anniversary of Social Security becoming law, is a strong reminder of Sununu’s disastrous record of selling Granite Staters out to Wall Street by attempting to privatize Social Security:

• Repeatedly introducing legislation that would have privatized Social Security and exposed Granite Staters’ retirement savings to stock market crashes while increasing Wall Street firms’ profits.
   
• Co-sponsoring legislation that was projected to make Social Security insolvent seven years earlier than it had been forecast at the time. 
   
• Supporting Trump’s Big Ugly Bill that has accelerated the timeline for Social Security to become insolvent and is threatening the hundred of thousands of Granite Staters who rely on its benefits.
   
• Backing the Elon Musk-run DOGE, which slashed the Social Security Administration's budget and laid off thousands of its employees, undermining its ability to deliver benefits accurately and on time.
