New Hampshire Democrats Make Case for First in the Nation Primary Before DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee

New Hampshire Democrats Make Case for First in the Nation Primary Before DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee

Today, New Hampshire Democrats appeared before the DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee to make the case that New Hampshire is best suited to kick off the 2028 presidential nominating process to help ensure the strongest possible Democratic nominee will win the White House.

U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan and Committee Member Joanne Dowdell both delivered remarks to the committee, making the case that New Hampshire's unique brand of retail politics, where shoe leather beats money, and voters demand accountability, is exactly what the Democratic Party needs in 2028. The New Hampshire delegation also presented a video, available here

“The state that starts the process, where candidates are first tested and given a chance to rise to the top, should be a state where any candidate, no matter how unknown, no matter their campaign budget, can run and win,” said U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan. “That's why it matters that New Hampshire isn’t just one of a few early states but why it needs to go first.”

“New Hampshire's role has always been about battle-testing candidates through tough face-to-face conversations that no ad buy can replicate,” said DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee Member Joanne Dowdell. “In New Hampshire, winning the primary requires building a coalition beyond your base, and that's exactly the skill our nominee will need in November.”

“Granite Staters have always given candidates a fair shot and made our leaders stronger for the fights ahead,” said NHDP Chair and Rules & Bylaws Committee Member Ray Buckley. “We are grateful for the opportunity to make our case today and remain ready to hold the First in the Nation Primary in 2028.”
